Francesco Morandini

Morandini was a Mannerist painter active in Florence, who acquired the name Il Poppi, for his birthplace. A student and collaborator with the artist and biographer, Giorgio Vasari (1511 – 1574), he was also a student of Vincenzo Borghini.

Morandini aided both teachers in their commission at the Studiolo of Francesco I in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. He contributed to two canvases, Alexander and Campaspe and the Foundry.

His other documented works include an altarpiece in the church of San Francesco in Prato and working with Giovanni Battista Naldini (1537 – 1591) in the Salviati Chapel in the San Marco religious complex in Florence. His work at the Chapel included the canvas, Christ Healing the Lepers. Of his work seen in the Uffizi Gallery is the Three Graces.
