The Madonna with Child and two Angels by Filippo Lippi not only is a devotional painting: the delicacy and sweetness of the Virgin Mary also show a new way of representing a religious subject more and more close to real human beauty.
Other paintings in the room are by Filippino Lippi, the son of Filippo Lippi. The Adoration of the Magi, for instance, where FIlippino shows us portraits of some members of the second branch of the Medici Family (that of Lorenzo the Elder).
The room also displays the famous Portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Urbino by Piero della Francesca, one of the most significant painter of the 15th century. We see here something new: a private subject, a noble, refined couple. Here Piero della Francesca reveals his ability in painting tiny little details composing the landscape and also his extraordinary skill in the use of perspective.
