Sebastiano Florigero ~ Biography
» Sebastiano Florigero Paintings

1500 – 1543

Born in Conegliano, Florigero, sometimes spelled, Florigerio or Florigorio was a 16th Century artist, with few surviving works. His painting in the Uffizi Gallery, Portrait of Raffaele Grassi, was once though to be a portrait of the architect and sculptor Sansovino, but is now recognized as Grassi, who is the father of the painter and architect, Giovanbattista.

Florigero trained under the late-Quattrocento Renaissance painter, Pellegrino da San Daniele (1467 – 1547), who passed on his influence from Il Pordenone (1483 – 1539). Florigero was also the son-in-law of Daniele. He worked in Padua, Cividale and Udine; noted as a Friulian Master, he also showed an influence from the School of Ferrara painter, Dosso Dossi (1490 – 1542). (Kren and Marx, Web Gallery of Art)
